The goal of this Educational Module is to guide the student through the basic theory behind, and the steps required for, measuring the magnetic properties of solids using the ACMS II option for the Quantum Design VersaLab and PPMS.

Several items are needed for this experiment, which include:

Samples (e.g. YBCO, Dy, Gd, Er, other rare earths are also good candidates)
Balance and weighing paper
Tweezers
Latex or nitrile gloves for sample handling
Sample holders (e.g. clear drinking straws, quartz paddle, gelatin or polycarbonate capsules)
GE 7301 Varnish
